Kathmandu University is an autonomous, not-for-profit, non – government institution dedicated to maintain high standards of academic excellence. It is committed to develop leaders in professional areas through quality education.
It is located in a mountainous landscape in Dhulikhel Municipality about 30 kilometers east of Kathmandu (KTM) having round-the-year pleasant climate and panoramic Himalayan Views.
KU had a very modest start from a rented building at Tangal, Kathmandu. Now, it has been able to create a built up space of 46,846 square meters.
Within a period of 21 years, KU has built not only reasonable infrastructure, but also established a track record of academic excellence. At present, the University offers various undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs in science, engineering, medicine, management, education, arts, pharmacy, environment, music, human & natural resources, information technology and biotechnology, through School of Science, School of Management, School of Engineering, School of Medical Sciences, School of Education and School of Arts. In addition to 3695 students studying in its constituent campuses 7500 students are in its affiliated colleges.
When established in November 1991 as a non-profit, autonomous, public university by an Act KU became first privately managed public institution of higher learning in Nepal. The predecessor of the university was the Kathmandu Valley Campus founded in 1985. The campus started as a private campus affiliated to Tribhuvan University and offered courses in science at intermediate level (I.Sc).
Kathmandu University started its academic program in 1992 with an Intermediate in Science program. In 1994, the university launched Bachelor programs in Pharmacy, Biology and Engineering (electrical and electronics, computer and mechanical). Later, Environmental Sciences was included in its academic program. M.Phil and PhD programs were started in 1997.

School of Education: Professional Development Model for Technical Education and Vocational Training Instructors in Nepal, Leadership Readiness to Implement Total Quality Management in the Nepalese Secondary Schools.
School of Engineering: Artificial Intelligence – Natural Language Processing, Grid Computing, UNL to Nepali Deconverter, Digital Library, Machine Vision Laboratory, Bio-Based & Green Energy Laboratary ,Water Power Laboratory, CAD/CAM Laboratory, Engine Combustion and Gasification Laboratory.
School of Management: Study of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Volatility.
School of Science: Aquatic Ecological Center, Disaster Management and Sustainable Development Center, Plasma Physics Laboratory, Natural Product Chemistry (NPC) Laboratory ,Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Laboratory, NPL – KU Bioavailability & Bioequivalence Laboratory, Shimadzu – KU Education Centre for Pharma Professionals, Formulation & Drug Delivery Laboratory.
