About University
Sookmyung Women’s University is a private university in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Founded in 1906, Sookmyung is Korea’s first royal private educational institution for women.As its name indicates, Sookmyung is a clear and bright university that has endless potential. Sookmyung was hit by a scandal in 2012 in which its President, Han Young-sil, was involved in a battle with the university’s board over misappropriation of funds.
History
1906 – Established ‘Myungshin Girl’s School’sponsored by Empress Sunheon
1948 – Upgrade to ‘Sookmyung Women’s College’.
2005 – Sookmyung Women’s Disease Research Center was designated as a new Superior Research Center (SRC) by the Ministry of Science Technology
2006 – Established “Le Cordon Blue Hospitality MBA”The 100th anniversary of Sookmyung’s foundation
2007 – Leadership Program’is born.
2008 – Selected as an outstanding university for its performance in IT Capacity-Building Project of Computer Science major by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
2009 – Won the ‘Management Innovation Awards’Selected as the major university leading admission officer system by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
2010 – Won the ‘Chosun Daily News Advertisement Awards.
Research
International projects
SMU’s Semester Abroad Program is designed for university students who are already enrolled in another university outside Korea. Both male and female students are eligible to apply. As a Study Abroad student, you earn credit toward your home degree while enjoying a valuable international and intercultural experience in Korea. Exchange Students from Partner Institutions may also participate in this program and tuition for their students can be waived as exchange basis. Through this program students can enroll in SMU’s undergraduate and graduate school. Credits earned are listed on a permanent SMU transcript and may be transferable to other universities.
